Marsha, Your point would be more convincing if this regulation had the faintest chance of working against its putative target. But it doesn’t. Therefore it will establish a potentially Draconian principle without bringing any of its alleged benefits.

But you’re right, it’s precisely the problem: Defend the principle, and you risk associating with the group attempting to exercise the principle. In just the same sense, the ACLU is often accused of supporting the ideology of groups (such as the Nazi’s) whose general rights they attempt to secure.

Yeah, that’s all nice but here’s the thing, Jews were not breaking the law and harming children over and over again. They were just being people living lives like everyone does and Hitler used racism and prejudice to do what you have outlined. Tucking grossly wrong human behavior together with ideology as the same item is WRONG. They do NOT compare. One is action taken that harms another human being, actions that are almost impossible to remove from a person addicted to them, the other are thoughts on how life should be lived.

So while it sounds really cool to believe that this law is gonna extend to anyone people dislike you are missing the reality of human psychology. Predators are drawn to prey and the prey for pedophiles are our CHILDREN who they ACTUALLY harm, and who have the highest percent of recidivism of all crimes.

You don’t put the wolves in the sheep pens at night. That is the metaphor that fits.

Now if you would like to tell us about all the ways civil liberties for the peoples world have been torn to shreds in the past 8 years I would agree with all of what you said. However, this is law is not a piece of it.
